At Cape York Motorcycles we go to great lengths to ensure this trip, delivers in every, single, way. We take you places no one else can go. It’ll be bumpy, it’ll be muddy and you’ll get downright dirty and you know what, you’ll have a massive smile on your face at the end of every, single, day.
Traverse the pioneering trails that crisscross Australia’s northern frontier lands, with us. Slide down muddy rainforest tracks, roar across the flats and take your bike through every landscape imaginable. It’s scenic, it’s stunning it’s the 7 Day Cape York Bucket List tour.
Life is for living and we’re all about living large. Let’s ride.
It’s Sunday morning and after a briefing, we’re ready to go. We leave the city of Cairns behind us as we head out onto the first dirt tracks. You almost can’t contain yourself. The sense of adventure is in the air and adrenaline is pumping through your veins.
The first rainforest trails are full of life, and in stark contrast to the shale and red clay flats we cross, as we make our way to Cape Tribulation on the old “Cairns Regional Electricity Board”, locally known as the CREB track. The track is world-famous and takes you right through the heart of the Daintree Rainforest. It’s one of the best tracks for challenging rides, dotted with crystal clear creek crossings, and the hilly terrain has stunning views at each tip. Our skilled guides help you navigate the water, hill and rock hazards.
If there’s any breath left in your body, the stunning scenery of The Great Barrier Reef and Daintree Rainforest will take it clean away. The area where these two well-known World Heritage sites meet, make once-in-a-lifetime view. You’ll see many more before the week is over.
We stop to view the stunning Bloomfield Falls otherwise known as Wajul Wajul, one of the many treasures of this area, where the Kuku Yalanji clan have lived for tens of thousands of years. This afternoon we enjoy a series of fun-filled trails before we arrive in Cooktown, where we stay overnight at the famous Lion’s Den Hotel. The pub is surrounded by 100-year-old mango trees and sits on the banks of the Little Annan River, perfect for a refreshing swim. The pub was built in 1875 and is a great place to meet the friendly locals and share a few cool beers at the end of our day’s ride.
You’re probably saying to yourself ‘life doesn’t get much better than this’, but the next six days of riding, camping and fishing are so much fun, you’ll think you died and went to motorcycle heaven.
On Day 2 we ride to Kalpowar and camp overnight in Lakefield National Park. Thrills run through your spine as we ride over heaps of challenging terrains. You see it all today, grasslands, woodlands, wetlands, coastal estuaries, mangroves and mudflats. Afterwards you’re left exhausted but with a real sense of achievement.
As the only eco-certified tour operator, and holders of the necessary insurance cover for you to ride and camp in the National Park, we’re delighted to be able to include this section in your Cape York adventure. We think it’s a crucial part of the overall experience.
Archer River is on the menu for Day 3, and it’s a tasty treat indeed. You enjoy a fun day of riding through the flowing trails that skirt along the East Coast of Princess Charlotte Bay. We come into Coen and enjoy a drink at the ‘Sexchange Hotel’. The camp site is exclusive to CYMCA on a private station, a gorgeous creek bed with coarse sand beaches. The creek curls around tonight’s campsite, so you enjoy a refreshing swim before fishing and relaxing for the evening. Nothing beats the taste of dinner cooked over our campfire flames washed down with a cold beer.
The next day we ride to Elliot Falls. On the way, we race through the wood trails and ride through the twists and turns of volcanic rock. The falls are the perfect place to soothe your aching muscles and take a well-deserved spa. The campsite is nearby and when we get there, you’re presented with cheese platters, wine and beers. The rest of the world is a dim memory as you relax by the campfire, ready to complete your journey.
The next day we stay at Loyalty Beach, a little way out of Seisia. There’s a lot to see today. A series of WW2 relics, plane crash sites and the crazy locals swimming and fishing next to huge fish and sharks. You can add an optional helicopter ride to your trip and it’s well worth doing. The views from the air are simply spectacular and it doesn’t cost much. Because we camp on the west side of the peninsula, the evening sunset is truly stunning.
This is it. It’s time to ‘hit the tip.’ Get THE photograph and put a BIG tick on your bucket list.
The tours are all-inclusive packages. Once you leave Cairns, your only extra expense might be for a cold drink, or a souvenir.
You can never repeat a first time and our motto is if you’re gonna do it, do it right.
Most people don’t ever get to tick off all their bucket list items. They keep putting things off until suddenly it’s too late. Life’s for living and if it’s on your bucket list, there’s a reason you put it there. Make a promise to yourself that you’ll do it.
