This is all about spending your days doing what you love most. Riding and fishing. Between Cairns, Cooktown and back again.
You’ll ride out on dirt tracks leaving the world behind, ready to encounter sand, boulders, creeks, slick red clay, woodlands, wetlands and the deep mud of the rainforest. The dirtbike riding is nothing short of exhilarating. The fishing is on our private boat, on rocky outcrops and in the estuary. The eating, damn good!
After an amazing 6 days you’ll be refreshed, full of vigor (plus fish, seafood and beer!). Are you up for it?
Let’s do this! Riding out from Cairns on day 1, we make our way through the rainforest and end up at the Lion’s Den Hotel. Built in 1875, this is a great ‘halfway-house’ before your 3-nights of camping and fishing. Today, you used muscles you haven’t flexed for a long time, and the hot shower is a welcome relief. Take a swim in the Little Annan River or a nap under the 100-year-old mango trees, before enjoying a crisp glass of refreshing ale with your dinner.
Day two’s ride is nothing short of exhilarating. A full day of creek crossing, twisty woodland trails and a sensational sand experience, sees you arrive at our beach campsite around 3.30pm. The camp is ready, the fire is crackling, and we’ve prepared a cheese platter, dips, biscuits, cabanas, olives and smoked oysters.
You don’t notice any of it. The stunning scenery takes your breath clean away. You can see dolphins playing in the sparkling water and the Lizard Island view is spectacular. After you explore and soak in the atmosphere, you recover and return to the campsite ready to enjoy beers, canapes and sunset stories by the side of the fire.
Yes, settle into the ‘routine’ of camp, fishing and riding, riding and fishing. We’ve got our own boat here and you’ll be chasing Big Barramundi, Giant Trevally, Queenfish and more, on the rocky outcrops and in the estuary. Not to mention oysters and mud crabs are yours for the taking, plus we buy kilos of fresh prawns and crayfish from the night-time trawlers. Yum Yum.
One word applies to the fishing here. Abundance.
The penultimate day sees you riding to Cape Tribulation. A delightful day through forest trails and onto shale rock before you stop for lunch at Blooms Cafe in Ayton Aboriginal Community. After consuming their famous burger and chips, you saddle up and ride in to view the stunning Bloomfield Falls, well known as Wujal Wujal.
Our home for the night is PKs Jungle Village at Cape Tribulation. Cape Trib is the joining of 2 world heritage sites (The Great Barrier Reef and Daintree Rainforest) and it makes for a spectacular view.
The tours are all-inclusive packages. Once you leave Cairns, your only extra expense might be for a cold drink, or a souvenir.
